Podiatry/Chiropody Conditions
What are Corns and Callouses
Corns & callouses are developments of thickened skin that grow as a natural response to friction or pressure. They tend to form on the toes, the soles of the feet, or other areas of the foot when they are put under frequent pressure or experience rubbing. This can often cause pain and discomfort when walking.
What are the causes:
- Poor fitting or tight footwear
- High-heeled shoes that increase pressure on the forefoot
- Foot deformities such as bunions or hammer toes
- Repeated friction from walking, running, or standing for long periods

What treatments can help
Podiatry
Your podiatrist will gently remove the hard skin using safe, specialist tools. They may also advise on footwear, cushioning, and preventative care to reduce recurrences.
How you will feel after treatment
You will experience immediate relief from pressure and pain, with smoother skin and greater comfort in your shoes. Walking will feel easier and lighter (sometimes like you are walking on air), especially in areas that were previously causing pain.
Occasionally the corn or callous may need additional treatment, if your podiatrist canβt get to it all on the first appointment. If you are still feeling discomfort, we would book you in for a free follow up to have it treated further.
