What is Fertility & IVF Acupuncture?
Fertility Acupuncture is a specialised approach to acupuncture designed to support reproductive health and improve the chances of conception, both naturally and alongside assisted treatments such as IVF.
Acupuncture is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practice that involves the gentle insertion of very fine, sterile needles into specific points on the body. By stimulating specific points on the body, acupuncture can help with fertility by balancing hormones, regulating menstrual cycles, reducing stress, and improving blood flow to the reproductive organs.
Many women have fertility acupuncture to increase the chances of successfully conceiving and to optimise their chances of IVF procedures being successful.

How your appointment will look
You will be greeted and welcomed into the consultation room by your Acupuncturist, who will take a detailed history of your menstrual and fertility health, lifestyle, and medical background. During the consultation they are likely to examine your tongue, pulse, or posture and they will discuss your fertility and treatment goals.
You will then be asked to lie comfortably on a treatment couch while acupuncture needles are gently inserted into specific points. It is advised to wear comfortable clothing, and you may be asked to remove items of clothing depending on where the needles need to be inserted. The needles are typically left in place for 20–30 minutes while you relax. You will also be provided with an alarm to notify the Acupuncturist if you need anything when the needles are in place. Your practitioner may also use gentle manual techniques or heat therapy to compliment the acupuncture.
Typically for best results treatments are recommended to start at least 3 months before planned conceiving. This is to prepare the female body to rebalance the menstrual cycle, and for males to boost their reproductive system and increase the quality of their sperm.
